Mandarin Oriental Royal Villa

Layers of Luxury

Costa Navarino, Greece

Context

Located in the natural wonder of Navarino Bay, responding to the resort’s founding principles of environmental sustainability, amplifying the concept of experiential luxury and sensitively combining refined Greek patinas and workmanship with Asian influences belonging to the brand’s heritage, the design of the Royal Villa is a sophisticated layering of elements and details. One of the largest villas   at the Mandarin Oriental in Costa Navarino, with five bedrooms, a large indoor living room, kitchen and outdoor lounge, the villa sweeps around a private terraced pool looking towards the Ionian Sea and sinks back into the landscape thanks to its planted roof.

The Design

The interior aesthetic of the Royal Villa clearly follows on from the rest of the hotel while having a language of its own. It is the epitome of luxury that whispers. Specially finished plaster walls are juxtaposed with stone walls, some of them ribbed like ancient Greek pillars, as well as refined woven timber cabinetry and curved timber panels to the bed surrounds, embellished with simplified Grecian motifs which reappear in luxuriously textured rugs. Organic furniture picks up on the sculptural form of the building and the coastline beyond while adding a touch of glamour and laser cut bronze blinds grace some of the windows. The indoor-outdoor transition is seamless, allowing guests complete connection with the natural world.
