Alpine Spa
Bürgenstock Resort, Switzerland
Vision
In a resort synonymous with wellbeing for many years, the ambition was nothing less than the creation of one of the most extraordinary, and possibly the largest, spa in Europe, described by the client as “the engine for the entire resort”. Built partly on the site of a previous spa, and extended by excavating a tunnel through the mountain, the new spa emerges into a cantilevered glass box perched on the side of the mountain, 450 metres above Lake Lucerne.

Spaces
Every step of the journey, from the meditative tunnel walk to the entrance and onwards through stone-clad spaces to the breath-taking sight of the pools and nature’s panorama beyond, was carefully considered. The wellness areas wrap around fully glazed walls providing the ultimate in rejuvenating views from the pool, relaxation rooms, numerous specialist treatment rooms and the sauna. On the landside, there is a beauty salon and gym; in between, the refurbished spa restaurant connects the two wings and opens onto a dining terrace overlooking the valley.
