MKV is converting and expanding the Maison Sofia into a contemporary MGallery hotel with 96 guestrooms and a presidential suite. The brand pillars will be translated into a pared back interior where organic forms, modern Bulgarian sculpture and wall art and the damask rose, synonymous with the Bulgarian tradition of distilling rose oil, will be elegantly woven into the design narrative. Materials will be natural, principally combining warm timber and travertine, while the colour palette will pick up on the greenery of the immediate neighbourhood as well as the pink of the rose in its soft hues. The terraced garden outside will be brought in with collections of interior plantings and, during the summer months, the terrace will become a delightful extension of the restaurant. The result will be light-filled spaces full of positivity and a sense of serenity.
