Maison Sofia - MGallery collection

Vision

MKV converted and extended the Maison Sofia into a contemporary MGallery hotel with 96 guestrooms and a presidential suite. The brand pillars were translated into a pared back interior where organic forms, modern Bulgarian sculpture and the damask rose, synonymous with the Bulgarian tradition of distilling rose oil, were elegantly woven into the design narrative.

Materials

Materials are natural, principally combining warm timber and travertine, while the colour palette picks up on the greenery of the immediate neighbourhood as well as the soft pink of the rose. On the ground floor, the terraced garden outside has been brought in by way of collections of interior planting and, during the summer months, the terrace becomes a delightful extension of the restaurant. In the guestrooms, the wall behind the bed becomes artwork with roses subtly etched into the plasterwork.

Throughout the hotel, there is a sense of serenity and artful allusion to the location.
