Electra Palace Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki, Greece
Context
In a city that blends antiquity with a modern cosmopolitan culture and business with leisure travel, the imposing Electra Palace has been a landmark since it opened some 50 years ago.

The Design
MKV is redesigning the public areas, drawing on a rich narrative that interweaves the symbolism of the name – in Greek mythology Electra was associated with brilliance and luminosity – the Byzantine forms that inspired so many of the city’s great monuments and the mid-twentieth century beginnings of the hotel itself. Bold geometric patterning to tiles, floor coverings and upholstery, a colour palette that combines ochre, amber and soft greens and sculptural screens that allow light to glance through the spaces are just some of the new elements which will tell a story that uniquely belongs to this hotel. A redesigned rooftop restaurant will be the place for guests to absorb the fascinating city below.
